Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to evaluate genetic variability in F2 population of cross Arka Kamini x AAC-1 in China aster. The investigation was conducted in Kittur Rani Channama College of Horticulture, Arabhavi during 2021-22. The genotypic coefficient of variation was lower than phenotypic coefficient of variation for all traits studied. The estimates of PCV and GCV were high for number of flowers per plant, individual flower weight, flower yield per plant. High heritability was noticed in most of characters studied except days for 50 percent flowering and flower yield per plant. High heritability associated with high genetic gain was exhibited by plant height, plant spread in both directions, number of branches, days to flower bud initiation, duration of flowering, number of flowers per plant, individual flower weight, stalk length, flower diameter and shelf life. The progenies which expressed characters with high heritability coupled with high genetic advance would be effective for advancement to next generation for developing high yielding China aster cultivars.
