Abstract:
Studies on method validation of ethion 50 EC on gas chromatography equipped with a flame photometric detector (FPD) and the decontamination behavior of ethion 50 EC insecticide in cabbage heads were undertaken. Residues were estimated by following the series of quality tests involving the quantitation of an analyte in a specific solvent and sample matrix using a specific laboratory procedure and measurement system. The limit of quantification was 0.05 µg ml-1. R2 values for linearity and matrix match studies were 0.99. Percent recoveries at the fortification levels of 0.05, 0.25, and 0.50 mg kg-1 were between 70-120 percent depicting the validity of the methods used for the present studies. Among various culinary food processes used to decontaminate ethion residues from cabbage heads, close pan cooking was found the most effective process which was recorded 40.74 to 61.53 percent reduction in 3 and 5 days sample, respectively followed by open pan boiling to the tune of 29.63 to 53.84 percent in 3 and 5 days sample, respectively.
