Abstract:
The current investigation was performed during the academic year 2022-2023 at the Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. The primary objective of the study was to find out the effect of post-harvest chemical treatments on post-harvest life of a promising new culture ‘Acc.Js-36’ of Jasminum sambac which has been selected from germplasm at TNAU, Coimbatore. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 8 treatments and 4 replications. Observation on Moisture content, Freshness index, Flower opening index, Colour retention score and Fragrance index were recorded every 24 hrs from 0 hrs to 72 hrs. The present study led to the inference that flowers treated with Boric acid 4% + 600 ppm EFF for 2 hours (T4) proved effective in extending shelf life of Jasmine flower buds up to 72 hours with the highest Moisture content, flower opening index, freshness index, colour retention score and fragrance index.
