Abstract:Rust of chickpea caused by Uromyces ciceris-arietini is an obligate pathogen and is an economically important emerging disease of chickpea influenced by climate change factors. It causes drastic reduction in grain yield of the crop worldwide. The present study aims to find sources of resistance in chickpea against the rust disease. The reaction of 277 chickpea genotypes/entries against rust pathogen was monitored under field condition, of which, 169 entries showed susceptible reaction and the remaining 104 genotypes recorded highly susceptible reaction. Out of 277 genotypes/entries only four viz., BG 4032, BG 4029, IPCKB 2016-149 and GL 19607 showed moderately susceptible reaction. These genotypes could be considered as a source of partial resistance against rust and may delay the onset of disease. The outcomes also necessitate to sourcing resistance against rust outside the host genera or create artificially.
