Abstract:
Quality seed plays an important role to increase the production and productivity in soybean, however availability of quality seed is one of the major problem in soybean seed production. The field study was undertaken to investigate the effect of varieties, reduced seed rate and sowing methods on soybean seed quality and yield. It was observed that the seed yield (26.42 qt ha-1) of soybean variety KDS 344 sown on Ridges and furrows was significantly higher at seed rate 70 kg ha-1 which was at par (25.03 qt) with the seed rate 60 kg ha.-1 The cost benefit ratio was (1.53) and (1.49) for 70 kg and 60 kg ha-1 seed rates respectively. The plant population (52.45/m2), plant height (69.17 cm) were also the highest at seed rate 70 kg ha-1 in the same variety. The seed quality parameters viz., initial germination (93.25%), seed vigour index I (2683) and vigour index II (109.55) and plant growth parameters were significantly higher in the soybean variety KDS 344 sown on Ridges and furrows at reduced seed rate of 50 kg ha-1.
