Biology of mustard sawfly, Athalia lugens proxima (Klug) on Haliv, Lepidium sativum

Abstract:
Studies on biology of mustard sawfly on Haliv revealed that the female adult laid 74.60 eggs per female. The incubation period ranged from 6 to 8 days with mean incubation period of 6.95 ± 0.69 days. Hatchability per cent of eggs was 86.67%. The mean larval period and pupal period was observed to be, 12.65 ± 1.95 and 12.25 ± 1.37 days, respectively. The average longevity of male and female mustard sawfly was observed to be, 13.5 ± 4.09 and 9.75 ± 3.51 days, respectively. The average life span of male and female mustard sawfly was observed to be, 45.35 ± 6.45 and 41.60 ± 5.69 days, respectively. Morphometric were recorded as egg (0.44 mm x 0.23 mm), 6th instar larva (14 mm x 2.55 mm), pupa (7.70 mm x 4.50 mm), adult male (5.50 mm x 1.70 mm) and adult female (6.60 mm x 2.20 mm).
