Abstract:
The study was conducted in broiler chicken to evaluate the efficacy of a feed emulsifier at improving their performance, carcass characteristics, lipid metabolism and immunity. 225 straight-run one-day-old commercial Vencobb chicks were randomly allocated to one of five treatment groups, T1-T5, each having three replicates of fifteen birds, and reared till 6 weeks of age under standard rearing practices. Group T1 received standard broiler ration; groups T2 and T3 received 2% energy-deficient ration, and groups T4 and T5 received 4% energy-deficient ration. Both groups T3 and T5 additionally received a herbal feed emulsifier, AV/PFE/15 (M/s Ayurvet Limited, India) @ 250 g/ton of feed. Parameters pertaining to performance, carcass characteristics, serum lipid profile and specific immunity were recorded. Significant improvements in feeding efficiency, farm efficiency, lipid metabolism, and carcass characteristics were observed in the energy-restricted groups that additionally received AV/PFE/15; although statistically insignificant, numerically large improvements were also evident in body weight gain, feed consumption, and specific immune responses. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that the addition of AV/PFE/15 @ 250gm/tonne improved performance, carcass traits, lipid metabolism and specific immunity in energy-restricted broiler chicken.
