The economic analysis of growth in procurement of milk by Vijayapura and Bagalkot milk union ltd

Abstract:
In India, the dairy industry plays an essential role in the national economy and also socio-economic development of millions of rural households. The growth in procurement of milk was positive and it was highest in third Period (2006-07 to 2015-16) with a growth rate of 15.84 percent over the ten years. The milk was procured by the union through DCS, in the total procured milk around 80 to 85 percent of milk was directly sold as raw milk and rest was used to prepare milk products. The growth of the societies in the study area indicated by overall growth indicators like total members, total employees and total functioning DCS. Total members per DCS were also increasing and had positive growth rate over the Periods. The compound growth rate for these procurement indicators were highly significant. The achievement with respect to procurement varied from a lowest of 80.07 percent to as large as 94.35 percent. The union’s target of milk procurement was not met 100 percent. The gap between sales and procurement was discovered to be positive. And almost constant sales were there through DCSs. The procurement was fluctuating throughout the year due to flush and lean seasons, whereas the demand was almost constant.
