Abstract:
The present research work was carried out in some villages of Niali block of Cuttack district to accesses the success of different hormonal protocols for the induction of estrus in post-partum anoestrus buffaloes. Fifty Indigenous and graded buffaloes between 1st and 4th parity showing postpartum ovarian acyclicity for 120 days or more, were selected for the study. The true anestrous animals were treated with two different hormonal protocols viz. Double synch (Group A, n = 20) and Estra-double synch (Group B, n = 20) protocols along with routine vitamin and mineral supplements and Group C (n = 10) as control group with only routine vitamin and mineral supplements for 2 weeks. Blood serum was collected from pre and post-treatment (on day of oestrus) buffaloes for estimation of blood hormonal profile. The estrogen value (pg/ml) for double synch protocol were assayed to be 4.52±0.33 and 17.33±1.68 respectively, for pre-treatment period and on the day of estrus. The corresponding progesterone values (ng/µl) for group I were 1.97±0.27 and 0.58±0.01 respectively for pre-treatment and on day of estrus. The buffaloes which were subjected to estra double synch protocol (group II), the serum estrogen value (pg/µl) in pretreatment and on day of estrus sampling were observed to be 3.63±0.25 and 16.51±2.13 respectively. The serum progesterone value (ng/µl) in the corresponding day of sampling were 1.35±0.12 and 0.92±0.02. In the control group of buffaloes, the serum estrogen (pg/µl) and progesterone (ng/µl) values were estimated to be 3.60±0.92, 5.75±0.12; 0.98±0.13; 0.62±0.05 during pretreatment and in estral collections.
